Healthcare is a Human Right!

January-February 2017 NJ Universal Healthcare Coalition e-Newsletter

We have exciting news. Important events are coming up in both North and South Jersey in the coming months, and we’re also seeing even more evidence that public opinion is on our side across the country.

National Single-Payer Conference in NYC attracts over 500 people

It started January 13 on a high note with hundreds protesting in front of the Trump Tower. Workshops featured tools organizers need, and analyses of the current political environment. The Republicans have no plan for replacing the ACA, creating an opportunity to advance Medicare for All. One of the larger workshops featured representatives from states where activists are advancing single payer legislation.  Our own Assemblyman John Wisniewski spoke about his commitment to advance Medicare for All.

Bottom line: Don’t be intimidated or disempowered by Trump’s threats; be aggressive with strategies to keep Medicare for ALL front and center.

District 34 Legislative Meeting

Calling all Clifton, East Orange, Montclair, & Orange residents! We are looking for folks who’d be willing to meet with Assemblywoman Sheila Oliver to discuss her support for single payer and our efforts toward Medicare for all NJ residents.

Once we have the team together, we’ll arrange a conference call to prepare for our meeting. We need a strong and diverse group to get Assemblywoman Oliver on board with our efforts. If you are interested, please contact us at: njuniversalhealthcare@gmail.com.

Special South Jersey Outreach Event targeting women in business and non-profit organizations

This March, NJUHC and SJ National Organization for Women, Alice Paul Chapter, will host a free breakfast meeting to share information about universal health care, and how it can help businesses and non-profits reduce costs, and ensure employees have full comprehensive health benefits. The event will feature a short video, Fix-It, which explains how one small business’s investigation led it to support universal healthcare not tied to employment. We will have a panel of experts on health benefits and small business operation to answer questions.

RSVP to: outreach@southjerseynow.org  to attend this special event scheduled for Thursday, March 30th 7:30–9:30 AM at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Cherry Hill, 401 Kings Hwy N, Cherry Hill, New Jersey 08034.
